2.44 Release Status

Tom Musgrove noted some differences under Vista with regression tests, but which were mainly caused by the 2.43 render pipeline refactoring. There were no other known show-stoppers.

Release Todos

Jean-Luc pointed out a forum post which indicated that some Windows users may need to install their own runtime libraries to use the official Blender releases. Someone was going to check if it was possible to include this library with the installer.

FFMPEG inclusion in Windows release was debated. The main argument against was that the download is very big and contains extra unnecessary codecs, but also other issues (how movie files are opened: via ffmpg, or libavi or quicktime). RC2 has FFMPEG, and Nathan has been using for a while, so decision was to include for now but ask on mailing list if there are other issues.

Splash still has not been selected. Suggestions were to pick from previous splash or choose from some good recent images. Ton will try to find judges from last contest; otherwise he will pick himself.

Documentation still has to be completed for release. Ton will do release page and 2-month CVS summary. Tom will help with this.

May 10th was proposed as target for the final release, which roughly coincides with the switch-over to svn.

Blender.Org Forum Registration

For time being all new forum accounts are manually reviewed by Ton. Captchas are bring used and seem to be working OK.
