Project Timeline

This may be subject to change at a later date.

Key Milestone Dates

  • 17 June - Coding Start
  • 2 August - Mid-Term Evaluation Due
  • 23 September - End of GSoC Coding Period

Important Disruptions/Uni Commitments

  • ~1 week sometime in August - Prep for (informal) research progress review
  • ~1 week towards end of August - Departmental PG research conference
  • 2-3 weeks leading up to 18 September - Paper deadline crunch
  • Full extent of workload during July-August unclear at current stage... Fingers crossed it still leaves enough time+energy to get sufficient parts of this working

(Tentative) Plan

  • Week 1 (Ends 21 June) - Brainstorming ideas, reading up on useful techniques, checking on details of existing implementation
  • Week 2 (Ends 28 June) - Refining ideas (i.e thinking about corner cases, and how to integrate tricky subsystems), writing up user-level docs discussing design decisions
    • 'Goal': Design documentation docs posted online for pages of notes+diagrams for design ideas/WIP thoughts so far
    • 'Goal': A proposal for design of system for core devs to give feedback on (ETA: by end of weekend)
  • Week 3 (Ends 5 July) - Managing consultation process (and refinement of design to deal with any immediate concerns arising from that). Start of exploratory prototyping of key parts of design in parallel with that.
    • 'Goal': Plan of attack for implementation process (notably, scope of the changes from design to be done as part of GSoC, and what will need to be left as an "after-GSoC" target, taking into account Uni research commitments)
  • Week 4 (Ends 12 July) - Prototyping core system
    • 'Goal': Design doc
  • Weeks 5/6 (Ends 19/26 July) - More prototyping work
