Better integration of textures in the node system

Perhaps "Procedural textures nodetree" (https://projects.blender.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=7897&group_id=9&atid=127) could provide a good basis for this. It is an addition to the current system (like material nodes are to material system) and it probably could be tailored to fit your needs.

I'm not a dev, but I think this would help in a lot of places (think: reused of node-textures as e.g. bump-maps ... AFAIK) Just wanted to point out this post to the mailing list as well (showing one more screenshot of the patch): http://lists.blender.org/pipermail/bf-committers/2007-December/019819.html

Concerning the 'tailoring' - I would even go so far as to allow the user to [TAB] (think: as with node-groups) into node-textures from the material node-editor (basically switching to the textures-mode of the editor). But that's just me :)

That is interesting, but it doesn't solve the main thing we are asking for here, which is simply being able to add and edit a texture from a node, instead of having to choose from existing ones, and being able to edit it's parameters directly by e.g. clicking on the node.

Ahh, the whole "we need to create the textures in [F6] mode (but making sure they are nto used there directly) and then select them in the node" kind of problem. Yes, that's pretty un-intuitive right now ;) - allowing the creation alone would help a lot - editing is already pretty easy, but the more improvements the better :D
