About

Pose Libraries act as a way of storing frequently used poses or already created poses, so that they can be quickly accessed and applied. This is useful to help maintain consistency and speed up the animation process for workflows. Other packages often exhibit similar functionality, but often in a different way.

In Blender, a Pose Library can be any Action. However, for the Action to be usable as a Pose Library, it must contain a set of markers, which are used to denote where a 'pose' occurs.

Existing Actions

Action Markers (i.e. those used to denote 'Poses') are drawn in the Action Editor as blue bone-shaped icons (pale-blue = unselected, mid-blue = selected, bright-blue = active). These can be found behind Scene Markers.

In the Action Editor:

  • 'Poses' can be marked in an Action by creating a set of markers local to the Action using the Shift-L hotkey. This will add a new marker to the Action, with the name you provide when creating it.
  • Ctrl-Shift-L can be used to rename the 'active' marker
  • The Alt-L hotkey removes the selected Action Markers
