Week 13 (2015/02/23 - 2015/02/28) - final week
- Writing of 3D View editor page, which also involved moving docs from other inappropriate places into this chapter. A few days was spent on this, as I wanted to make sure it was good quality and could be seen as an example for how the other editor sections should be. In the end it's not perfect and is missing a few things, but it's OK for now. See patch and commit.
- Many structural improvements to the render chapter, especially Cycles, and BI lighting. See these commits: rBM275, rBM280, rBM286, rBM299
- Minor work on the link-fixing script - it is now functional and committed, though further work can be done to tie it in better with the other tools we have.
- Wrote down some suggestions for visual improvements (mostly CSS and other formatting things) and mailed list to get feedback.
Weeks 11 & 12 (2015/02/09 - 2015/02/22)
- Reviewed several patches: D1085, D1099, D1101, D1108, D1126
- Attempt to get UI team to decide on a better name for the "Properties Region" (aka N-panel) (T43623)
- The usual minor improvements to grammar, spelling, rewording, etc.
- Planning and writing the 3D View editor page (currently does not exist)
- Improve command-line rendering page
- Created some tasks for missing/bad docs: Rigid bodies, Linked Libraries, SSS Sharpness, Viewport Navigation
- Cleanup index and structure of Physics chapter
- Fixing broken internal links: rBM267, rBM268, rBM269, rBM270
- A little bit more work on the script to help fixing internal links (mentioned in previous report) - will submit it for review next week.
Weeks 9 & 10 (2015/01/26 - 2015/02/08)
- Created some tasks for Grease Pencil and Compositing chapters in an effort to focus volunteers and help people who didn't know what they could do.
- Reviewed patches from a few people, mostly related to compositing and grease pencil tasks: D1051, D1034, D1032, D1029, D1030, D1036, D1044, D1072, D1063, D1076.
- Improvements to the Data System chapter (related to T42737) - removed old redundant stuff, remove details about import/export formats and just point to the add-on list in the wiki, update supported image/video formats, move outliner stuff to the Editors chapter, improvements to Opening and Saving sections.
- Remove old info about gestures.
- Remove unnecessary info from the Rendering introduction (page, commit)
- Fix lots of little issues like spelling, header levels, index table of contents, etc.
- Cleanup conventions about using images and videos in the manual.
- Use an additional stylesheet rather than replacing the theme's one completely so that it's easier to maintain (rBM168)
- Write script to help fix broken links manually and automatically - then use it to fix all broken links which just needed "/index" to be added on the end (rBM212, rBM213). I'm still working on this script, it's not yet in a state for other people to use.
Weeks 7 & 8 (2015/01/12 - 2015/01/25)
- Worked on manual/about pages, explaining how to help with the docs, install guides etc.
- Posted a call for help on blenderartists.org
- Set up sphinx to allow us to customize the theme's CSS
- Tested out allowing a custom path to an offline user manual in blender itself (D1005)
- Fix modeling table of contents and structure
- Fix ':scale:' issue when building on windows
- Improvements to render sections: camera, color management, post_processing and render layers.
- Move contents of 3d_interaction chapter to more applicable places and delete the chapter (T42738)
- Reviewed some patches (glossary terms, interface introduction, key frame add)
- In the last week, quite a bit of time was spent on discussions in the mailing list, IRC and replies to the blenderartists post
Weeks 5 & 6 (2014/12/29 - 2015/01/11)
- Did some fairly large-scale restructuring of the manual content (moving chapters to more logical places) after discussion and planning on the mailing list.
- We switched from Git to SVN, so some time was spent setting up build environments and learning some SVN commands.
- Updated installation instructions for windows (since we're now using SVN)
- Did a rough review of every chapter in the manual, made notes of most of the obvious things.
- Improved the "About Blender" section (Introduction, Community, About the Manual)
- Added more info to "Writing Style" in the style guide.
- Some more minor cleanup and deduplication.
Weeks 3 & 4 (2014/12/15 - 2014/12/28)
- Fixed some missed/failed conversion issues (E.g. 1, 2).
- Fixed some broken links
- Write simple find & replace tool
- Work on T42738 (3d_interaction section refactoring) in branch temp-3d-interaction-refactor
- Review two patches (D944, D955)
Weeks 1 & 2 (2014/12/01 - 2014/12/14)
- Went through every modifier page and ensured they are up to date, logically structured, formatted and don't contain any unnecessary or out-dated text and images. This took longer than expected, as most modifiers needed quite a few formatting changes and contained old irrelevant information.
- Formatted the landing page of the manual a little nicer, which involved giving every doc a proper title instead of plain headers.
