Mockups Requested for Layout/Scene Switching Control

The Blender Layout Switcher is used to move between different window layouts and scenes. From this control elements can be created, delete, renamed, and selected.

Idea: pulldown-centric design

This control is most commonly used to switch layouts, however, for the un-initiated user it doesn't even look like a pull-down. The goal here is to produce ideas which simplify this control *without* removing functionality.

  • appear mostly like a "pulldown", with most of the clickable area dedicated to the pulldown function
  • add a small area for an options-menu, including:
    • duplicate - duplicate the current layout
    • rename - rename the current layout (makes pulldown area editable)
    • delete - shows confirmation to remove the current layout

Idea: strip-centric design

Very commonly a user will toggle between the most recent 2-3 used layouts. This could be made visually easier and more obvious by a showing the most recently used layouts prominently, with some kind of pull down/flyout for the other layouts.

Photoshop uses this method and it works well. However, there is a challenge incorporating Blender's ability to duplicate, delete, rename layouts into the control.
