Attic talk:Dev:Doc/Building Blender/Linux/Ubuntu Feisty Fawn
Hi, there is something I think should be added in the list of packages needed for compiling Blender from CVS, and I think there is something wrong about the information of compiling with the game engine. On this page it is said that you have to specify that blender is to be compiled without game engine. I was told though, that you have to specify compiling with game engine, which means that it compiles by default without it.
The packages that in my opinion should be added are: 'libavformat-dev' and 'libavcodec-dev'.
I can't say if both are needed, but I installed them both using Synaptic in Ubuntu, and then I could import video in Blender. Before that, I could not, even after compiling with FFMPEG enabled.
What also could be added, is to describe the ways of adding functionality, like FFMPEG to be compiled with blender, since by default Blender is compiled from CVS without FFMPEG. A second suggestion in this aspect, I would like to see an explanation on how to enable more then one added functionality, like -with ffmpeg - and -with gameengine
What could be better too, is the explanation on how to make the the '.cvsr' file, since I, as a newbie in compiling from cvs, put the code in my console, instead of the file itself. I managed it afterwards with the help of Ubuntuist.
For what I did, and the trouble I had, look at [1].
I've placed my comments here, because I find it a bit strange to edit the wiki directly, since I'm not sure if both packages are needed, and because I'm a newbie in the use of Linux (Ubuntu-Edgy).
