Filling GSOC Form HOWTO/FAQ

So if you wish to take part in the SOC, these are the rules. If you don't, please let Chris Dibona know soon so, he can open more slots, and if you decide to go this way, please accept his personal regret and apologies.

If you want to get an ITIN, please turn in your paperwork with a note indicating such with your forms, and Google will wait to send any money until you send them one. The deadline for the forms, (with or without ITIN) is Friday the 16th of July.

1) US Citizens in the US or abroad.

Must provide a fully completed Form W-9, which must include a U.S. tax identification number. If a fully completed Form W-9 is not provided, Google will withhold 28% from its payments to you and will pay this over to the Internal Revenue Service on your behalf.

2) Non-US Citizens in the US.

Must provide either a fully completed Form W-9 or a fully completed Form W-8BEN. Both forms are not considered fully complete unless they include a U.S. tax identification number. If a fully completed Form W-9 or W-8BEN is not provided, Google will withhold 28% from its payments to you and will pay this over to the Internal Revenue Service on your behalf.

3) Non-US Citizens abroad.

Note that this includes foreign citizens living abroad in countries other than their place of citizenship.

Must provide a fully completed Form W-8BEN, which must include a U.S. tax identification number. If a fully completed Form W-8BEN is not provided, Google will withhold 30% from its payments to you and will pay this over to the Internal Revenue Service on your behalf.

Stephan Jaensch created "short" ITIN application HOWTO. ITIN is absolutly neccessary if you don't want to lost 30% of payments.
