Materials Glow
I have a feature request for Blender internal. Specifically I would like to propose a new “glow effect” type of material:
1. It should not be a different “kind” of material (like volume or halo). Instead, it should be a setting such as “mirror” inside “surface material”
2. It should have a variety of adjustable settings such as light intensity, light color, emits light (true/false), shadow intensity, shadow color, etc.
3. Regarding the glow, it should have the ability to differentiate how much it glows (hardness).
4. Should be able to add a different color inside of it (such as how a lightsaber effect has a different color for the blade than for the outward glow).
5. It should be affected by the vector blur node.
6. It should work on any mesh no matter what the density/shape/size.
7. It should be fast in the sense that it should not slow down the render too much.
8. You should be able to determine if the inside emits the light (solid inside glow) or emits from the outside.
9. The inside of the glow should be relatively solid and should also be the actual mesh (you should be able to change the hardness settings for it). The exterior glow should be relatively soft (but should also have the ability to change the softness/hardness). A good example would be the lightsaber glow made with the node editor.
10. It should be compatible with textures.
11. It should not require the indirect lighting setting under the “World” tab.
12. It should be possible to activate/deactivate the exterior and/or interior glow at any time.
