2.44-stable branch released as 2.45?

Discussed making a new release from the current 2.44-stable branch, and calling the release 2.45. Even though only bug fixes (no new features) have gone into this branch, this was proposed instead of naming it 2.44a. The target was to release before Siggraph in August. Campbell and Diego favored releasing in about a month, but Jean-Luc wanted more effort put into fixing more bugs before the release. Ton said that developers really interested in doing a release need to help out with the details (logs, splash, web pages). Diego agreed to organize this (as "release manager"). Ton also noted that Olivier Saraja volunteered to make more of the logs.

Decision was to propose a 2.45 release on mailing list, then discuss details in next meeting.

SoC reports

Csaba Hruska said he was "close to hear sound in Blender again", and hoped that to have sequencing working within the next week. An additional external library (libsamplerate) is now used. He was asked if audio strips would work also and replied he "hoped so". Also planned was a Jack back-end too (http://jackaudio.org). Ton reminded him that blenkernel is supposed to run without graphics or sound, and not contain C++ code.

A long discussion then ensued about how the design of the new sound system was being decided. Ton was concerned about things such as the SoundSystem code, which had been removed without any apparent discussion, and that one goal was to release this work as an independent sound library. He reiterated that all SoC students were to make design documents first, then after those had been discussed and approved start the coding.

Current dev projects

Janne Karhu has been working on the particle system, mostly bug fixes and performance increases. He is currently investigating volumetric fragmentation. Michael Foxx and Jean-Luc suggested he create an SVN branch for his work so others could help review and test.
