Suggestions

The images at section Make 'real' circles for the pips & some others make half blank page. Why not using 3 per row as if they were in a table at the end of its section?. That'd look much proffesional. Also, numbering them could do easier to follow the tutorial. Great work so far. :)

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes the images are kinda unorganized right now, but i try to not break the "text on the left" + "images-in-order on the right" style. But i might align the text to the images, so it isn't cramped in the top of the chapter. Also empty space isn't always a bad thing since it 'can' make things (e.g. the different steps) look seperated. I'll try to find a good compromise.

At first i also planned on numbering the images in the caption, but I'm still unsure on what would be the best way (global/per-chapter, including part of the chapter as text, etc ...).

I just thought that can't you save the hand-selected polygons (in the 'Extruding the pips' step) as a group. So that you can load that group later in order to make that color assigment for them?
It would be quite an important feature to know for a newbie like me. At least if I modelled the dice in 3ds Max, I would've saved the polygon-selection at the beginning.


I think he easiest way to save them is by using vertex groups - a quick guide how to use them is here:

  • Be sure to have the Editing buttons active (F9)
  • In the Link and Materials Panel you can create a vertex group by pressing the New button
  • be sure you have the vertices selected and press Assign. This 'saves' the selected geometry in the vertex group.

To restore the selection

  • Make sure you have nothing selected
  • Press the Select button in the same panel.

I'll make sure this tip makes its way into the tutorial soon.
