Collada Task Force Discussion

Status (06-feb-2012)
  • Juha's patch has been added in revision 43915
  • I found some more bugreports in the Bug tracker
  • I made a quick test and found exports now work for Second Life
  • A new release log page is now available: Collada Release notes 2.62

  • I have added only one of the realextent characters to the page. I was not able to upload the zip file and i think that having all characters there is duplicate test data. Please correct me if that is wrong.
  • I have asked my Maya contact for help and will get response in a few days.
  • While the exporter patch works fine, there are issues on the Import side:
    • SecondlifeDefaultCharacter.dae results in 3 zero sized objects (can not be scaled up)
    • SecondlifeDefaultCharacterWithRig.dae imports 3 objects of correct size plus an armature with all bones rotated by 90 degrees along the z-axis
  • Juha thinks about creating 2 separate patches for export and import. I like this idea.

Realextent

Hi - as noted on the mailing list, we've been exporting to WebGL using GLGE, skeletally animated characters. So that would be one application that indeed successfully imports rigged meshes from Blender 2.5 at least (we can make a new test with 2.6 soon)

You can add the 4avatars.zip as a test file here if you want, that's what we are using and where have the animation data in the blends too.

Hi, all.

I have been talking with Ideasman_42 last night about the 90 degrees rotation that has been introduced at some time between 2.57 and 2.59. It is still not clear to me if that rotation is something mandatory, or just one way to do it.

But since Juha's patch effectively makes Blenders collada exporter create results which also import into Maya when i use the "secondlife compatibility mode", i believe that maybe that one could just become the default export mode and the current export mode could be commented out. Or is there any application which can successfully import rigged meshes from Blender 2.60 ?
